Margie’s Peak

This tour will take us into the rugged mountain ranges southwest of Phoenix. Length will be approximately 4 hours.  Margie’s Peak may have been named after a past mayor of Phoenix, Margaret Hance.  Mayor Hance served as mayor for 4 two year terms from 1976 to 1983.  She was well liked and known as “Margie” to most who knew her.  Margie was a conservationist and environmentalist. She was given the title of the “Mother of Mountain Preserves.”  We will be off road on fun roads with plenty to see including cacti, native trees and shrubs. Also, there will be opportunities to see rabbits, lizards, birds and by chance deer or coyotes. We will take a break at Margie’s Cove where we can take a short hike and enjoy the Arizona desert. If time allows we will view the petroglyphs near Gillespie Dam.
